The Masters.

One piece per code in The 175 — the real historical archive. 175 will ever exist, one per code, never one per side. They are not sold. The studio lends them, to museums, galleries, archives and academic institutions, building a documented exhibition history one loan at a time.

Why lent, not sold

A one-of-one piece at the price a Master would eventually command isn't bought on the object alone — it's bought on the artist's record, and a record can't be bought, discounted or invented. It's assembled one exhibition at a time. Every loan becomes a line in that record — venue, dates, curator, installation photography — recorded in the Register beside the work, anchored like everything else. A thing that can't be bought at any price is its own proof of seriousness, and it costs the studio nothing to say so, because a Master was never going to sell this year regardless.

Who may borrow

Museums, public galleries, universities and academic libraries, LGBTQ+ archives and community organisations, and Pride and festival programmes — free, for a minimum of four weeks and up to six months, renewable by agreement. The borrower carries insurance, transit and framing; the studio's time is the loan. Commercial venues may borrow by separate arrangement, for a fee. Never a private home: a work that can hang in someone's living room isn't on loan, it's on holiday, and it builds no record.

What comes with a loan

Museum-standard conditions throughout: nail-to-nail insurance at the Register value, UV-filtering glazing, stable temperature and humidity, no direct sunlight, supervised or locked display, condition reports at both ends. Fixed, non-negotiable credit wording naming the work, its HC reference, “Courtesy of Hanky Family Studio” and the Register URL — the line that turns an exhibition into a permanent, verifiable provenance entry rather than a memory. The studio may recall a work on fourteen days' notice.

Later — direct sale

Once a handful of exhibitions are on the record and a Master's history can justify what it's actually worth, the studio expects to revisit selling them, direct, the way the rest of the collection is sold — off the standard payment rails, by conversation. That isn't open yet. If you'd want to know the day it is, say so.
